Pauline van der Rest was born in Brussels in August 2004. She started play- ing violin at the age of 7 with Igor Tkatchouk, first in private, and since 2016, as Young Talent at IMEP in Namur. In 2020, she started studying with Boris Garlitsky, and she joined his class at the Folkwang University of the Arts as a Bachelors Degree in 2021.
She successfully takes part in national and international competitions ev- ery year: In 2014, she was awarded the first prize at the Kocian competition, and in 2015, the first prize at Concorso Postacchini. She won the 1st prize of the Grumiaux competition in march 2018. She also won the 1st prize at the International Competition in Odessa and the 1st prize in the Classic Academy competition in Li`ege playing with the OPRL, winning the prize of the orchestra and the prize of the public, both in june 2018. In february 2019, Pauline won 1st prize at the Honda Competition for Classical Music in Brussels. She also won the second prize at the Competition for young violonists Spohr in Weimar. She was elected Young Talent of the Year 2018 of the Province of Namur.
Pauline is invited to perform in various countries in Europe and Asia, in espe- cially prestigious halls: Flagey and Bozar in Brussels, the Moscow International House of Music for the Spivakov Foundation, and Hamburg’s Laeiszalle just to name a few. Pauline has played with numerous orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Liege, the Royal Harmonic Orchestra of Guides, Or- chester des Orchesterzentrum Dortmund as well as the Grumiaux Ensemble.
Pauline followed masterclasses with Albert Markov, Aleksey Semenenko, Alexander Vinnitsky, Christian Tetzlaff, Boris Garlitsky and Leonidas Kavakos. She has the privilege of being selected by the latter to receive a scholarship in order to follow lessons with him in 2020 and 2021.
