Michael Salm, violin
Michael Salm, who studied in his native Berlin und at the New York Manhattan School of Music, has been serving as Assistant Principal in the Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House since 1998. From 2013 to 2014 he joined the Staatskapelle Berlin in the same position. In addition, he has been a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra since 2003 and a principal of the Gstaad Festival Orchestra since 2013.
From 2005 to 2006 Michael Salm was Concertmaster of the Korean Symphony Orchestra in Seoul, South Korea.
Michael Salm appeared as soloist with the Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House, the German Chamber Orchestra in Beijing, the New Philharmonic of New Jersey, in New York in Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall and in Korea with the Korean Symphony Orchestra, the Ulsan Philharmonic Orchestra and the International String Festival Daejon, among others.
As a Guest Principal he performed with renowned orchestras such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg, Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Frankfurt City Opera House Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, Bergen Philharmonic and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. His guest appearances as Concertmaster include the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo.
Michael Salm is teaching at the Orchestra Academy of the Zurich Opera House and working as a tutor with various Youth Orchestras.Since 2015 he is also the conductor of the Orchestra Staefa-Uerikon in Switzerland.
