Ivaylo Kovachev is a pianist who successfully combines a repertoire of classic, contemporary and jazz music. His varied interests in terms of style and genre make him the go-to choice for a soloist and chamber performer on many different stages and jazz clubs. His partners include concertmasters and members of the most renowned Swiss orchestras, such as the symphonic orchestras of Tonhalle-Zurich, Lucerne and Bern, as well as solo singers of the Zurich Opera. As a soloist and chamber musician, he often appears on concert bills in Switzerland, Austria (Salzburg – Summer Music Festival), France (Paris – Salle Cortot), South Korea, Germany, Italy and Greece.
Ivaylo Kovachev is not just a performer but a music teacher too. Over the past twenty years, he has given piano and improvisation lessons, with invitations for cooperation from the Basel Music Academy, the Swiss Musical Academy in Bern, the Lyubomir Pipkov National Music School in Sofia, etc. serving as proof of his students’ successes. He has appeared as guest lecturer in numerous classical music and jazz improvisation seminars and courses. He currently teaches the piano in Zurich, Switzerland.
Ivaylo Kovachev has won a number of accolades, including awards from eight national and international piano competitions. In 2009, he was awarded the prize for best live performance of the year on the Swiss National Television and the audience prize for his involvement in a joint music project. A major part of Ivaylo Kovachev’s stage shows are documented in the archive of the Bulgarian National Radio.
Since 2014, Ivaylo Kovachev has been the musical director of the Johann Jacobs Museum in Zurich.
